A Quick Look at GETools

April 17th, 2008 · 4 Comments · GIS

Brian Flood has apparently been busy.

Now that Google Earth 4.3 is officially out the door, I wanted to share another product that we’ve been working on. It started out as the framework for a standalone version of Arc2Earth but it quickly became apparent that the core functionality would be very beneficial to other Google Earth developers. So, we decided to create a custom tools harness that would load both .Net extensions (which the standalone version of Arc2Earth will be) and also runtime downloadable javascript.

Scripting in Google Earth? Now that is something that I really could take advantage of. Check out his videos on his blog post to see it all in action.

The GETools Streetview is how the GE street view should have been done in the first place.. that is about 200% more usable than that crap Google put out.

thanks chad, that is the way I had expected them to do it as well. the all kml version is cool but harder to navigate IMO

that being said, the getools streetview tool is only about 20-30 lines of code so its pretty easy to change GE to how you like. You can attach .Net controls to the main render window, the sidebar or just use floating windows. now clearly the bulk of the streetview magic is in the google flash control but thats kinda the point, remix great stuff when you can…like the VE Birdseye control in GE - kidding of course :)

    cheers
