I’m sure most of you got the news yesterday that MapServer 5.0.0 has been released. I love the look that folks are getting with the AGG graphics library which just makes the rendered maps look very impressive. The change log is available here for those who want to see what has been fixed/added [...]

Post Your Favorite Open Source Web Mapping Sites
April 27th, 2007 · 9 Comments · GIS, GeoRSS, MapGuide, Mapserver, OSGeo, Open Source, OpenLayers, PostGIS
As was suggested in the ESRI Web Mapping Sites post, post your favorite open source web mapping sites. One of my favorite sites is the OpenStreetMap project. I’m a sucker for Open Layers, but the concept and implementation of OpenStreetMap as a whole is wonderful.

ArcIMS died April 11, 2007, the day Arc2Earth Publisher was released. With the ability to serve up even dynamic layers using Virtual Earth, there is no reason to invest any money in ArcIMS anymore. Save the money you would be using licensing ArcIMS and take a look at ArcGIS Server which does bring [...]

Who says you can’t compare apples to apples. Sean takes a look at the new MapGuide Demo page and is impressed.
I spent a few minutes trying out the three generic tasks and must say, this is more like it. Autodesk is employing some UI and graphic designers. They haven’t found the sweet spots yet, [...]

I’ve been getting more and more .NET developers talking to me about my MapGuide Open Source move over the holiday. Seems like many ArcIMS developers are downloading and checking out MapGuide, trying to get away from the ArcGIS Server/Desktop conflict (they have to develop on 9.1, but their IT department wants to roll out [...]

Well I’m about ready to head out for the Thanksgiving Day weekend, but I thought I’d grab something to play with. After following the simple directions here and double checking them here, I got the following when I try and login:

Both Adena and Jason hit the big points about this bundle release, but I thought I’d chime in. From the press release:

Want to see what the new MapGuide Open Source AJAX and DWF viewers look like? The Open Source Geospatial Foundation has a webpage with a couple examples for you to check out. Maybe Digg or Slashdot have linked to them because at least on my end they are pretty slow. I was [...]

I spent some of the morning on the IRC channel following the meeting, but I slept in and missed more than half of it.
Both Matt Perry and Gary Sherman has some good insights into what transpired. The best news is everyone (including Sean I assume also) can now move forward and try [...]

Autodesk Sticks With MapGuide for Open Source Project
January 19th, 2006 · No Comments · GIS, MapGuide, Mapserver, Open Source
Adena’s got a post up right now with the news. MapGuide Open Source is the “new” name and as an ex MapGuide developer, I’m glad to see the name stick around because MapGuide is a great name for a mapping product. Now the focus can be on what the MapServer Foundation should be [...]
