UPDATE: I have no idea why ESRI doesn’t believe in permalinks so all those links below do nothing special. Sorry.
I’m not going and probably most of you aren’t either so this might be your best bet as to getting an idea what might or might not be said Monday morning.

ArcGIS 9.1 Not in Extended Support….Yet

January 31st, 2007 · 3 Comments · ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Engine, ArcGIS Explorer, ArcGIS Image Server, ArcGIS Server, ArcIMS, ArcObjects, ArcSDE, ESRI, MapObjects

Back in November, before we all got our ArcGIS 9.2, ESRI posted an updated ArcGIS Desktop Life Cycle PDF that showed that ArcGIS 9.1 had entered “Extended Support”. I guess they changed their minds because it appears that 9.1 is still in “General Availability”. We are back to the
ArcGIS 9.1 will be moved [...]

ArcGIS Online - Bigger News to ESRI Users Than ArcGIS Explorer

November 28th, 2006 · 7 Comments · ArcGIS Desktop, ESRI, GIS, Google Earth, MapObjects

I think the big news of the night is ArcGIS Online. I commented a while back about the sorry state of the default ArcGlobe and how ESRI should offer up some nice looking globes for users to use. Well now you have it. On ArcGIS Online, ESRI is offering up MXDs, ArcGlobe [...]

Integrating Time Into Your Google Earth Workflows Using Arc2Earth

September 14th, 2006 · 2 Comments · ArcGIS Desktop, ESRI, GIS, Google, Google Earth, MapObjects

Brian Flood was kind enough to give me a sneak peak at his latest Arc2Earth extension for ArcGIS that takes advantage of Google Earth’s new time-based KML tags. The Arc2Earth implementation of time is pretty slick and you can wait for Brian to post about it as he’s a better showman than I am. [...]

ArcGIS Explorer, ArcExplorer and ArcWeb Explorer

July 3rd, 2006 · 12 Comments · ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Engine, ArcGIS Explorer, ArcGIS Image Server, ArcGIS Server, ArcIMS, ArcObjects, ArcSDE, ArcWeb, ESRI, ESRI Developer Network, Extensions, GIS, MapObjects

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read that people are getting these three products confused. ArcGIS Explorer is ESRI’s ArcGIS Server desktop client. ArcExplorer is ESRI’s GIS viewer (either MapObjects or Java based) and ArcWeb Explorer is ESRI’s flash based ArcWeb browser client. About the only things that they have [...]

Sometimes You Have to Laugh at ESRI FAQs…

June 26th, 2006 · 2 Comments · ESRI, GIS, MapObjects

FAQ: Why is there no MapObjects to ArcObjects converter utility?
I could never work in tech support as I’d just go crazy with weird questions such as why there is no MapObjects to ArcObjects converter. Actually if programming was only that easy, we’d all be on the beach in Mexico.

MapObjects 2.4 Arrives

May 26th, 2006 · Comments Off · ESRI, GIS, MapObjects

A MapObjects 2.4 update arrived today (smelling of clove cigarettes, not sure if that happened at ESRI or in route). I don’t see anything that screams out in the “What’s New in MapObjects 2.4“, but I’m glad that they are still supporting it.

Remembering “Loading…”

April 1st, 2006 · 2 Comments · ESRI, GIS, MapObjects

All these great AJAX interfaces makes one forget about how many different ways we provided feedback to the users waiting for the map to load. One of more interesting ones I saw back in the MapObjects IMS days was the Running Dog loading screen. You just sat and watched this dog run back [...]

Not Everyone Uses .NET or Java

March 28th, 2006 · 25 Comments · ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Engine, ESRI, ESRI Developer Network, Extensions, GIS, MapObjects

Looks like some ESRI developers aren’t sure where they fit within the new ESRI developer community.
…but those of us who are straight ArcObjects programmers for in-house applications didn’t have much choice. There were very few sessions geared to helping us RIGHT NOW, and I think that ESRI needs to understand that.
I’m sure not everyone has [...]

A Carrot to Get MapObjects Developers to Try ArcGIS Engine

December 19th, 2005 · 3 Comments · ESRI Developer Network, GIS, MapObjects

I just got a letter today in regards to our MapObjects development. Basically the letter gives MapObjects users a free complimentary EDN subscription. I’m sure this is to get more of us to develop with ArcGIS Engine and better exposure to some of the new tools for ArcGIS development. I’ll probably take [...]

Map Objects to the Rescue

September 14th, 2005 · No Comments · MapObjects

We’ve pretty much just finished up a rush job given to us by a client to create a tool to allow planners to see where constraints (man-made and natural) are located on their property. This had to be done in such a quick time we were really concerned how we’d be able to pull [...]

Rob Elkins asked me in my previous post about EDN for any suggestion I might have.

ISO downloads - I’ve come to rely on this for MSDN.  Many time while traveling I might need something and I always know I’ll have access to the complete MSDN catalog.  I could see where I might want to install [...]

Moving Away From Web Based GIS

June 10th, 2005 · 2 Comments · ArcIMS, ESRI, MapObjects

I’ve noticed an interesting trend during the last year with our clients.  Many of them have decided that internally they don’t want web based ESRI ArcIMS or similar products.  We’ve worked with them to create either stand alone ESRI MapObjects applications (hopefully we’ll upgrade them to ESRI ArcGIS Engine soon) or just using ESRI ArcPublisher [...]

ESRI, MapObjects and .NET

May 30th, 2005 · No Comments · ArcGIS Engine, ESRI, MapObjects

As I’ve posted here a couple times, we are looking at moving to a complete .NET environment. We’ve not really decided on what tools we’ll use, but that will come probably after we start testing ArcEngine.
I was researching some .NET threads on ESRI’s support site while floating in the pool on a Memorial Day weekend [...]
