Waiting for the Bus…
Well the bus came and Connor is now at Kindergarten. He was very excited, but he did admit to me just before the bus came that his stomach hurt. I guess even little guys get nervous. I can’t wait to hear how it went, he was very excited about starting school.

Connor watching the bus approach the bus stop.

I thought I’d include this for context. This me waiting for the bus many years ago. That pant/belt combo was where it was at back in the early 70’s.
Congratulations to Connor on taking a big step today. I’ll be doing the same thing with my 5 yr. old son in about two weeks.
Thank goodness our sons are fortunate to be starting Kindergarten in 2008 instead of 1978, so they’ll miss out on wearing the kind of pant/belt combo that I also remember all too well myself.
I’m not commenting on the pants because my 1981 Kindergarten picture isn’t any better.
BTW, what is with those clouds in the picture? Doesn’t seem like Phoenix to me.
Lefty: A little monsoon action in the morning. Hot and humid. It was left over from the monsoon action from Sunday night. By 10am it had totally burned off and we had clear skies.
I hope you son is a little more talkative about his school days then my 4 and almost 6 year old. Whenever I ask them about their day I always get the same “I can’t remember” or “it is a secret”. Thank god their preschool teacher is was a little photog or I would never had known my little 3 year old girl is pretty handy with a hose.
Reminds me of sending both of mine off. Congratulations on this big step. You’re in for a year of drawings and crafts and letters and numbers and all of it is wonderful.
I am very happy for your family.
I got a lot of “can’t remember” today on how his day went. He did say he was very excited for tomorrow though. He liked his teacher and one of his best friends is in his class so he is living well.
August 4th and he is starting school already? Wow.. that beats my niece, she starts next week. My two don’t go till the 25th.. I will actually miss Michigan for their starting the school year after Labor Day (never made sense to me to go a day and a half, then be on vacation).
I think the theory is that the kids would rather spend August in an air conditioned school and May outside when it is nice.
Nice, I like these posts about your other life. They give me a chance to think about my own boy (1.5 now) and how it might be watching him grow up. On a GIS note, I really enjoy your blog and have learned a lot from it. I consider myself a pretty experienced GISer/developer, but I work for the USGS (remember us?) which is essentially an ESRI shop because of this giant enterprise license we have with them and so I don’t have the occasion very often to try something else. For the past couple years, the alternatives that I have been able to experiment with I learned about on your blog. Not to mention the industry trends I am largely insulated from. Keep up the great work!
