Thanks to reader “KipterUh” my blog now has a translator available to convert my rants into many other languages. Click on the flag on the sidebar that matches the language you want to read my blog in and enjoy. What is nice about the translator is that you can bookmark the links so my blog is always available in your language.

Sorry it took me so long to do this, it was much easier than I thought.

This gets mentioned, but nothing about how awesome your site works with the iPhone? If you could just do the same with PlanetGS as you’ve done with your blog I’d be a happy camper.

looks like Google is going to block lots of automated requests to its translator service…

OK, switched from Google to Altavista. That should solve the problem for now. I’ll switch back to Google (which is faster) after everyone stops clicking on those links!

Not to criticize, but the german translation engine doesn’t even recognize “don’t” and “can’t” . That’s a bit “scheisse”!

You people are killing me! Now Yahoo! is blocking the translator. :p

I’ll switch it back to Google since it was much faster and if you get that error message, just wait a while and it should go away once people stop trying to read my blog in Korean.

Not to criticize too, but the translator seems to be a very bad french speaker too! I prefer read in english.

Gran idea, aunque a veces la traducción parece al estilo “Tarzan habla con Chita”, es muy útil.

Yea the error is because so many folks are hitting the links. It should go away after folks move on to YouTube or some other distraction.

I get an “Operation timed out (60)” error when I click the spanish flag

No idea how this is implemented (I just see they yahoo blocked message), but couldnt you use some sort of caching, that way once you have a valid translation it will continue to work. You could maybe invalidate the cache if a comment is posted

It does use a cache, but for some reason it still errors out occasionally. I had not idea this many folks were non-native english speakers. I might take it down for a week and slide it back there when folks have forgotten about it.

OK, looking at the server logs and talking to some folks it appears that my blog gets way too much traffic for these services to work. I’ve been told that I probably should look at other services for translation.

I’ll research a little more and get back to you guys. Sorry about all this….

James, in my opinion, it’s not a bad thing if this kind of translation doesn’t work, because, at least for the french translation, the results are pretty poor, closer to unreadable than anything else.

(I guess it’s not really a surprise, especially with the amount of technical terms, and the fact that good translations are a challenge even for human professional translators!)
