Thanks for the heads up James. I’ve been waiting patiently, hoping that this update will fix the issues that I am having running ArcGIS on my Vista machine… fingers crossed.

I’m keenly awaiting Vista support too but it does not appear to be mentioned in the updated PDF at http://downloads.esri.com/support/downloads/other_/1351Whats_New_In_ArcGIS_92_Service_Packs-v4.pdf - like you my fingers are crossed.

Isn’t that image from the movie Citizen Kane, from a scene in which Kane has bought stage stardom for his not very talented mistress and is determinedly trying to lead applause in an otherwise silent and disapproving audience?

And, if so, did you intend that irony?

Knowing James, every image he posts has a reason. Usually he puts a comment on it or something like that for us less “learned” folks.

Edit: Actually if you mouse over the image some text appears….

Of course, as you guys wait for 9.2, other GIS vendors just keep pumping out new releases with support for SQLServer 2008, and CUDA processing.

Hey guys!! I think i am about to commit a suicide!!!! Hehe it’s true. The reason? Two months ago i bought a sonyVaio laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. Please someone tell me if i can install cracked ArcGIS and which version? I tried ArcGIS 9.0 last night but i had 2 problems. Starting the server and installing Desktop because of an 1904 error which i couldn’t solve because i have Vista!! Please help me, i owe you big!!!!!!!

    Tsanakalos,

If you are using a cracked version of ArcGIS, you are stealing. I hope that James reports your IP address to ESRI. Yep, thats right jackass, since James runs the blog, he probably gets the IP address of those who post. So, I hope you are busted you low life!!!!

has anyone else had problems getting SP4 downloaded?

  • 11 Bonzo // Nov 19, 2007 at 8:34 am

I know ESRI warns you NOT to install Desktop SP4 without also installing the SDE SP4…but given the few changes in SDE SP, and given that I don’t have time to update EVERY user’s desktop, I’d like to go ahead and put SP4 just on my desktop arcmap. Does anyone know if my computer is going to blow up if I do this?

BTW..someday I’ll have to actually watch Citizen Kane…I’ve been meaning to for a long time…I love classic movies.

Why do the ESRI SP’s take so long to install. It optimistacally states “7 minutes remaining” at the start of the install. 20 minutes later, it’s all the way down to 2 minutes remaining.

It only showed 0 seconds remaining for about five minutes.

I am really not intending to start a Manifold back and forth, but that is one of my favourite things about their updates. A quick uninstall, double click the update executable and 15 seconds later you are ready to go.

  • 14 Jojo // Nov 19, 2007 at 11:07 am

thats because there is nothing to install. The program is all vaporware, and the user base is even less.

Abridge, are you that Summer guy in disguise?

Are there even more than 10 people using the product?

As a mere lurker, I should have known better.

You know what is more hilarious that installing the 170+ mb service pack? Installing the 340+ mb help system service pack!

Actually manifold works pretty Well. It’s missing some of the higher-level analytic stuff, but that can be built fairly easily.
