&Kevin Martin emailed me telling me that his great Export to KML has been updated:
WHAT’S NEW IN VERSION 2.4:
- implements KML version 2.2
- attributes from the GIS database stored in the output KML as “schema” items
- labels and information points can now be vertically offset
layer and features descriptions can be saved as and imported from files- a horizontal “shift” (in X/Y coordinates) can now be applied
- bunch of other bug fixes, minor tweaks and improvements
He also dropped a hint that he will be supporting raster data and even a basic KML importer in the near future.

Are there any good shp2kml converters out there that are easy to use (don’t require compiling source code or running command lines) and that aren’t Arc extensions (don’t require an ArcGIS license)?

I love this utility as well. I have had some problems when exporting files to the same directory to the same name. The workaround has always been to delete the file and start again..
The Labeling & Description options provides a great way to build nice content in the popup windows in a GE environment. I use this utility to rapidly update things in Google Earth.
Now if only there is a dialog maker out there that can query the content of KML’s that is this easy to use..

Are there any good ways of dynamically querying a layer and producing KML/KMZ output? What I mean is - when Google Earth issues an HTTP query like “GET /path/to/sever/script/query?BBOX=[longitude_west, latitude_south, longitude_east, latitude_north] ” then I’d like to have a program/script that translates that HTTP request to an ArcGIS query and produces a cropped set of KML in reply.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Simon.

A set of conversion tools that DO NOT require an ESRI license can be found at http://www.zonums.com/
They even have one that converts KML to Shapefile so you can digitize data using Google’s MyMaps. SWEET!

Think I must be missing something !
I have managed to get great results with the latest version of your Button
Export to KML Version 2.5.1
It as been a while sine I have used it
The latest version now uses HTML for the info box
Do I need to put in a path or some code to get it to feed off the Shape file or Data Base ?
Any help would be much appreciated
Wayne
