New Release of ArcGIS Explorer “Soon”?

There is somewhat of an announcement on the ArcGIS Explorer Blog about the next release of ArcGIS Explorer.

In the Showcase and at the sessions we were using both the currently available public download (Build 380) and also showing one of the more recent software builds (Build 392) to highlight some of the new features that you can look forward to in the next release. This upcoming release of Explorer will continue to evolve for a few more weeks and will be delivered sometime in July.

Not much there, but I assume some better KML support (2.0/2.1?) and maybe some increase in speed. I’d love to roll out some AGX applications internally at my company, but I’m sticking with the .NET Web ADF for now.

While I appreicate them coming out with new versions and releasing fixes, they need to take the enterprise into consideration. We have no way of controlling the “A new version is a vailable” dialog when we push out the package to clients. This results in hundreds (yes hundreds) of helpdesk calls saying “AGX says a new version is available, how do I get it?”

@J If your users are using an internal homeserver, you can disable that: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ArcGIS\Explorer\Config\E2Config.xml >>> true

That’s a pain. version checking shouldn’t be left up to which server you connect to.

if I recall correctly, one thing Euan talked about at the .NET SIG re: v next of AGX were some enhancements to the Task API – better integration of sketch geometries?

I sincerely hope that there’s a MAJOR improvement in performance in the next build of AGX. I’d love to be able to use it as a means of allowing access to local data, but right now it’s just way to slow… I’d be laughed out of the room if I suggested that we switch from Google Earth to AGX in it’s current condition.

Lets hope they add support for writing Shapefiles like the free GoogleEarth supports creating points, lines, and polys in KML!
