Anyone see a link to where ESRI provides support for ArcGIS for AutoCad? I can’t tell if this is actually supported by ESRI or not as it isn’t in the support site.

Seeing that error message is a bit scary when you have AutoCAD open, particularly with a DWG open that frequently gives me Fatal Errors
I guess that’s what happens when you mix the premier CAD/GIS packages - a big salad bowl of bugs waiting to play off each other.

How about - like a Nanaimo bar with bugs for the base?

I have looked several times before and never found any support anywhere on their site.

What are you doing to cause that error?

1. Open Autocad
2. Add ArcGIS Server Service to map
3. Change to paper space
4. Change back to model space
5. Autocad blows up.=

Interesting, I can confirm that.

The solution is actually right before your eyes. You simply need to close “e”.
Now if we can just figure out what “e” is, we’ll be in business!

I got James started on this today…I get a similar bug when I tried the program. I don’t remember what the error message was, and I had to uninstall it - because I had work to do. And I got the bug never even having added a ArcGIS Server. AutoCAD died whenever I opened an existing DWG and switched from paper space to model space.

ESRI response:
“well why would you want to change back and forth between paper and model space? You should have had everything in place so you didn’t need to switch back and forth!”

Yes, this prooduct is supported. Call ESRI Support and they’ll log a call since this plug-in is a consumer of ArcGIS Server services.

I’m not an AutoCAD 2007 user, but I recently installed and tested it successfully on a machine in our Engineering Dept. Loaded up an existing AGS map service, zoomed in to see scale dependencies/aerial photos pop up, etc.
I DID have to place a tech support call though, since it didn’t install initially due to AutoCAD 2008 existing on the same machine. ESRI support was very accomodating and helped me resolve the issue quickly.
Quick summary, AutoCAD 2007 and 2008 installed on the same box. You must open a 2007 DWG first and THEN install the extension. If not, it sees AutoCAD 2008 only and insists that 2007 hasn’t been installed.
On a related note…AutoCAD 2008 support is expected within the next few weeks.

There is now an ArcGIS for AutoCad user forum on the ESRI support page.

My office is about to purchase the ArcServer with AutoCAD 2008 so lets hope the 2008 patch works smoother. The whole reason we are buying it is so the engineers can mess with the maps without affecting the source data.

As an addendum to my July 26th comment, I now hear that the 2008 compatible version of the extension will hopefully arrive by the end of August.

If anyone could point me to the master list of ArcServer Capabilities and what all one can do with it that would be greatly appreciated. Apparently I need to explain to all the staff here why it is we are updating to ArcServer and outline all of its capabilities.
