The “New” Yahoo! Maps

May 16th, 2007 · 3 Comments · Uncategorized

The word via PlanetGS is that Yahoo! has a new update to their mapping tool. Dan Catt has probably the best overview I’ve seen so far. I used to use Yahoo! Maps religiously, but since Google Maps has come out, I just don’t really bother anymore (other than to georeference photos in Flickr). I switch between GMap and Virtual Earth depending on where I’m at (and I just love the Bird’s Eye view). I will say though these Yahoo! maps look great.

There is no point even bothering with Yahoo Maps here in Australia, there is no detail at all. Google Maps absolutely kick Yahoo’s lame censoring arse!

I’m actually giving it a little time, waiting to see if this was the actual total of the upgrade.

Since I’m the kind of guy I am — I’ve only discussed the recent upgrade privately with a couple others after running vision-testing. I’m still unsure if I wish to publish the results or simply point the issues out that I see for a broader analysis discussion.

There’s positives and there’s negatives — unfortunately, the negatives were noticed almost immediately, visually and without any anaylsis methods. The analysis only confirmed what I suspected.

But, it looks relatively better than what they had prior.
