Use Google Earth Pro - A software solution for viewing GIS data

Hmm, for about half the cost of Google Earth Pro, you could have Manifold…

* Fortunately searching for Goo doesn’t not result in Google trying to pimp their Goo….

    Manifold is old hat. Orbit GIS is the future. I’ll bet my guacamole ranch on it.

    Not surprising, unless of course you really beleve the ‘do no evil’ cr*p ;p

    Have you done anything with Manifold lately?

    James, aren’t you playing with fire here (re: manifold) :-)

    If you search for the same thing on Yahoo you get at whole lot of esri stuff. But at place nr 10 there is GRASS :-)

    Newsflash: Google is a for-profit company. They’re not a charity, and they’re not a public service.

    They’re advertising their own products? Snore.

    @ Frank

    Yep, but the vast majority of their revenue is derived from advertising. It doesn’t help sell ad space if you compete like that.

    @Frank:

    Yes, but isn’t it interesting just HOW OFTEN *oogle comes up though? Even if you search for something that shouldn’t really bring up a *oogle product.

    I don’t understand the issue. Googling GIS got me 2 sponsored links (one being a Google product, so what sponsored links are suppsoed to show at the top). The first unsponsored link returned was http://www.gis.com. Seems perfectly fine to me.

    The issue is that Google search is no longer as independent as it should be. While I’ve got no real problem with this, it does make me wonder if they massage the results to help promote their own products.

    Not very “google-like” and more like Microsoft IMO.

    thats where you are wrong Lefty. It is very google-like. These guys have been bullies their entire career - they just paint their black hat white.

  • 12 Lefty // Apr 11, 2007 at 7:40 am

    @righty:

    Fair enough, still they had been careful not to screw up their search results. This is probably just a preview of the end result. A Google world.

    The only thing exciting about the ESRI conference is that the Red Sox are going to play the Padres at the end of the week on Friday. I’m sitting so close to Manny that I’ll actually hear him snoring in right field.

    GO SOX

    Yo i’m seriously confused. What IS MANIFOLD?! its a joke right? who has so much time on their hands?!! I don’t get it.

  • 15 Chris C. // Apr 17, 2007 at 11:28 am

    Yeah dude, all this talk of $100 for IMS is just a joke :)

  • 16 Craig // Apr 17, 2007 at 12:34 pm

    Paying any money for an IMS is a joke. Legacy GIS systems shouldn’t be in the server business.
