Paul Ramsey caught my eye last week when he posted the following:
ESRI will be participating in FOSS4G 2007 as a silver sponsor! This is a great chance for ESRI to articulate some kind of framework for co-existence with open source alternatives, and for the open source community to educate ESRI on the options for interoperability.
Go ahead and read his post as I think his thoughts on how ESRI might start a relationship with the open source community.

Boy I hope this means more interoperability for us ESRI folks. I’ll take this as a positive step.

Why is it everytime I hear “open source” I picture the comic book guy from the Simpsons? Posting that pic of him a few days ago didn’t help.

Yes, but not before the often common moaning and berating ESRI for not doing more so far.
As long as the OSS zealots are kept in the closets and the more level headed OSS advocates are leading the conversation, great things can happen.
