One more update to report (I did notice that there was more textures in Rome). Minneapolis, MN, St. Paul, MN, Tacoma, WA, Irving, TX, Sacramento, CA and some more outlying areas of Los Angeles (Irvine and Newport Beach, CA among others) have been given the 3D texture treatment. Since it is the season, here are a couple of the large shopping malls in the O.C.
Fashion Island - Newport Beach, CA

South Coast Plaza - Costa Mesa, CA

Blimp Hangars at USMC Tustin (closed)

The Big A (hey it was called that when I grew up in Orange County)

They haven’t made it down to my hometown or my high school yet.

James — I enjoy your VE posts. Please keep me updated with things you find out. I’m digging VE way more than Google Maps, especially for ArcIMS-type “viewing” sites.

I really like what they have done, so far. Especially the addition of 3D models and birds eye overseas.
I wish they would use something else besides USGS DOQQs when I zoom in close. I understand why, using their own resource, TerraServer.(http://terraserver.microsoft.com/)
I’m pretty sure they have better imagery, at least of Indiana. A group here, sent 2005 1ft imagery to both Google and Microsoft. I already see in Google’s last update, the entire state of Indiana is using the 2005 imagery.
Not only that, Indianapolis…aka Hell, only has one building in VE3. It’s like a phalax symbol looming over the landscape. If they are only going to add one building, don’t add one at all.
And my NWW/FEF folks, I did mention to a board member to send a copy of the 2005 imagery your way. Not sure if that ever transpired. If not, the imagery can be viewed and downloaded through Indiana University.(sorry, thought I would mentioned it, since I was thinking of it atm)

I forgot to add.
After look at VE3 and the new updates. I was really, really impressed by one thing.
They accurately recreated a certain part of Atlanta in this update. I’ve been patiently waiting.
There is a hotel which sits just south of Lenox Mall on Peachtree St. Underneath the hotel a MARTA rail(2 rails) and a 6 lane tollway/interstate runs through.
I do see Chicago needs an update still.
Wonder what the Eisenhower Pkwy going underneath the Post Office and Exchange looks like?
