Looks like one of the commentators on this blog went ahead and created his Blogger Wordpress blog on Manifold. Could this be the first Manifold blog out there? If there are a couple of constructive posts it might make it into Planet Geospatial.
Oh and my copy of Manifold is in the mail so I should have that soon so I’ll get to see what all the fuss is about.

Oh yeah, a great blog. The guy started in September, and has had 1 posting.
Thats pretty pathetic. I’m not criticizing Manifold, just this imbecile Chris C who obviously has nothing else going on in his life so he starts a blog to tell everyone else about his pathetic life.
The key to a good blog Chris is to have something of value to say. Your idiotic comments make Manifold users look desparate. You would do well to just shut it down, and not embarrass Manifold by having a blog with 1 comment in 4 months. Instead, why don’t you go and get a life.
As for James’ CD in the mail, it looks like James stared Dimitri down, and Dimitri blinked. Can you believe it? The great and mighty Dimitri looks like he’s groveling to James in hopes that James will say something nice.
In reading between the lines, it sounds like Dimitri is desparate. Perhaps without an real GIS sales, the low cost GIS company has blown through its venture capital money. Now Dimitri is coming hat-in-hand, begging for exposure.
On second thought Chris don’t bother closing your blog down. Manifold will be out of business within the year and then you’ll have nothing to blog about any

Thanks for the nice comments jojo. Maybe it’s the p-taking about ESRI users that has offended you so much.
As for my blog I’ve just started out blogging and I intend to add a bit more technical stuff about what I do with Manifold. I thought a bit of personal stuff about me would let everyone know where I’m coming from before I start a real commentary on Manifold, GIS and the universe.

Chris:
Don’t let that jerk get you down. There is obviously something wrong with JoJo that he/she feels the need to bile like that all over someone elses blog. I liked your blog so far and thought your title was funny. My only suggestion is get off of blogger and use Wordpress instead. Keep up the posts…

Ya Chris. Don’t let people get to you. Good luck with the blog.
JoJo…..if you are that small clown girl with the pet lion. I’m not going to let my son watch your show on Disney. You’re suppose to be polite and well mannered.

That clown scares both my daughter & I. Now I know why
@Chris C:
I’m really looking forward to some posts with some real meat about Manifold & your uses of it environmental purposes.
BTW, I’m not sure what “pish” means in your native country, but you may find it’s most common use in English interesting. To pish (pish-ing) is to call birds into view through a mimic of an agatation or mob call that sounds like “pish”.
I also heartily recomend that you take Steven’s advice and move to Wordpress. Planet Geospatial will like you a lot more as well.

Well, for one thing, starting off with a posting that says “Are you being fleeced by ESRI” is quite inflammatory. And, coming from a guy who says he’s new to GIS is even worse.
Before you decide to denigrate ESRI, you should realize that they are a company that has done more for GIS than any other company on the planet.
So, you are a guy without much knowledge of the GIS field. And, you have decided to take on the top GIS company.
It is fine to talk about your experiences with Manifold software, but you should not jump on the Manifold bandwagon and insult other GIS companies.

Well I’ve been using GIS off and on for 7 years, admittedly only 2 full on years (using Manifold) - how much experience do you think you need before you are allowed to comment jojo?
I look at ESRI’s pricing compared to Manifold’s and yes I do think the pricing is way to high. My blog, my opinion.
James hasn’t made any negative comments about my blog, even though the title is dedicated to him - he has a good sense of humour - you obviously don’t.

Interested in trying out Manifold.
Is there a demo out there??
At least something like “ArcGIS Getting to Know” book, which teaches you the basics and gives you six free months of the software and its extentions.
Any thing out there like this for Manifold. I would love to try it out. It seems like it would be useful to me.

Don’t forget Pish is one of the great rock bands of our age.
@Matt…there isn’t a free demo of Manifold. Unless you are lucky enough to be a student or work for an institution which provides “free” access to the software.

arbitrary and capricious I say! The better question is not is there a free demo, but rather, is there any users out there. Or, at least more than 10 users.
Look, now that there is a wonderful Manifold blog, can you guys go there and discuss your happy commune together so we can continue to use this blog for real GIS people who use a real GIS, and who get real things done.

There’s 2 users in my department, lets see if we can get up to that magic number of ten!
Anyone else using Manifold?

Ya, that Phish…..Pish, Phish….same difference.
It’s only a band.

But if all the bands disappeared, the world would still go around. Unlike, food or water disappearing.

Chris,
Where’s “The Free James From ESRI” Blog? It appears to be gone.

After Jojo’s scathing comments I decided to retreat into my shell…
…yeah right!
I took James’ and others advice and moved over to Wordpress here.
Sorry to my vast readership for not providing a link in the old blog.

Yes KoS but if we can continue to manage food and water then we will find time for other things. The statuses are just slightly wacko right now. If all the KoSes disappeared we’d probably be fine also. Same goes for a lot, but it’s no justification for dropping the basis of communication.

Still no posts. What, are there no Manifold users out there? Or, are the two in existence the only ones who have commented? Oh wait, James is also a user, I forgot. Oops, check that, he got his copy for free
Now that James has commented on Manifold has anyone actually bought it?
Without any users, it looks like Dimitri and the boys are going to have to take out a loan, just to pay for the IP fees for their site.

@ James: I see my blog has been added to Planet GS, thanks for putting it up there.
I’m now starting to post more Manifold commentary, rather than spouting too much pish.

its been awhile. I see there were no postings on your blog. BTW, I thought your cartography post was actually good. I have changed my mind (slightly) on Manifold. It does seem to have some promise.
But, my harsh words were due to the fact that if Manifold was actually used in the real world, and you have the only blog going, then you’d expect to see lots of traffic. Its non-existant. What gives?
It seems Manifold is more of a lower end tool for individuals, rather than a real GIS that can do something for an entire organization. Or, perhaps it can do alot - I’m just incredibly doubtful that there are many people actually using the product.
Is it possible that Manifold makes its money somewhere else, and the GIS thing is just a little side business?

Fair comment on the lack of posts by me - I’ve been busy having a life that you accused me of not having
If you look at any blog that the blogger has so infrequently posted you’ll see a dearth of responses.
I don’t see why you look at my lack of traffic in the blog as some sign that Manifold isn’t really being used in real world GIS. For a more realistic idea of who and what Manifold is being used for check out HREF=”http://forum.manifold.net/Site/”>Georeference the offical Manifold user forum.
There are many posts at Georeference from users detailing what they’re using Manifold for - I recall a recent post where a user had installed 60+ copies on a fleet of ships.
I personally am working with our IMS team on developing several IMS for municipalities and private companies, all built on Manifold’s IMS engine, which comes as standard with Manifold Professional and above versions.
