On the Open Source GIS San Diego Gathering

August 9th, 2006 · 4 Comments · GIS, Open Source

I had a blast. I made an effort not to bring anything but my mind and just absorb all the great information and things people are doing with open source GIS. Listening to people like Tim Foresman and John Graham talk about what they are doing to foster community GIS is really inspiring. It sounded like everyone wanted to do it again next year so I’m looking forward to that. Maybe I need to take a vacation next June to San Francisco next year for the Digital Earth Symposium.

It’d be great to have something similar at the Dev Summit (since I’ll be there this year instead of the UC)!

I also enjoyed it a lot. And boy, was there a lot to absorb! My notebook is filled with names and acronyms to Google when I get home. I think I recognized you from your blog picture, and I wanted to say hi and tell you how much I liked your blog. however, by the end of it I was so exhausted and overinformed that all I could do was just drag myself back to my car.

If my company sends me to the UC next year, I’ll definitely be going to the Open Source gathering again! And hopefully I’ll ave gotten a chance to tool around with aa lot of these applications in the meantime!

Oh yeah, and if someone has MobileMapper CE pin # 6375… email me!
