PostGIS 1.1.1 Has Been Released

January 23rd, 2006 · 2 Comments · GIS, PostGIS

PostGIS LogoPostGIS 1.1.1 is now available up on their website. It appears to be a minor release so I’m not sure if we’ll be rushing out to update just yet. Then again my DBA hasn’t been one to not pass up an update. :) Still waiting for locking and mult-versioning, but maybe that will happen soon. Oracle Spatial is still the gold standard in my book.

“Still waiting…” ? You could be waiting a long time if you don’t talk about the issues on the users list. For the record, neither “locking” or “multi-versioning” have been mentioned on the list, with the possible exception of long transaction locking support for Geoserver WFS, for which there is an implementation. The issue that receives contant traction on the list (to my chagrin) is raster support. I would personally do topology before doing any of the above.

I would have to agree with the above comment- what business does a database really have storing a giant blob of raster data when it can be more efficiently stored in a file. Then again I am not operating in a “corporate GIS” environment, whatever that may really be. I have to say though, that this post was one more reminder of downloading postgis 1.1.1. Thanks!
