More on the Dev Summit Contest

January 19th, 2006 · 5 Comments · ESRI Developer Network, GIS

ArcView IMS MapCafe in all its glory! It looks like Steve and I were not synced up on our rules, but that is OK as the only rule set in stone is that we make the rules. :)
Anyway I assumed ArcIMS was included in the contest, but we didn’t spell it out so yes any ArcIMS application (.NET, CF, Java) is fair game. I’ll even go one further, if you have a great MOIMS or ArcView IMS MapCafe application, be my guest (though you might get laughed at). As I said in my comments, if it uses an ESRI product it can be demo’d, though Steve and I probably won’t rate any Avenue or VB6 examples very high. Lets try and keep the programs and languages to this decade, OK?

Now this is exciting. Other developer conferences I’ve been to have similar “contests” and they are loads of fun. I’m looking forward to meeting more of the ESRI developers out there.

Keep up the great work James, I read you more often than I do my NYTimes. :)

Trying to be funny about Cold Fusion are we James? I have a good mind to bring our ArcIMS demo and blow any .NET site out of the water with it.

[...] Or I can live though others. I hope to work on something for the ESRI Developer Summit Contest using the new 9.2 Beta (Probably ArcIMS or ArcGIS Server). [...]

[...] was asked about our Java Web ADF and CF. Antony, being the rock star that he is, posts this link to the macromedia/abobe site about CF and Java. I mosey on over and take a peek and lo and beholdyou should be able to use CF with our Web ADF. Since JSF is really just servlets, jsp, and Java on steroids (a.k.a. combined with a MVC framework, a great eventing model, and standard component specification) there should be no reason why you can’t use CF tags in our Web ADF pages. So as long as Macromedia does what it says it does you should be good to go. I did some googling on JSF and ColdFusion and came up pretty bare, so I am not sure what happens with this combination in the wild. Our team has not tried it but if you have we would love to hear feedback. Jeremy and Jason are you listening??   [link] [...]
